The Every Student Succeeds Act passed 8 years ago to allow foster youth to remain in their school districts. In this article by Imprint, the continued challenges for child welfare, school districts, and foster youth are highlighted.

This video from ACEs Aware highlights Laguna Highschool's work to help their student's thrive. Almost all Laguna High student's live below the poverty line and and nearly half can be classified as an unaccompanied minor or homeless.

This article from ACE Response discusses ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) the connection between ACE scores and challenges in the classroom. The article also offers links for the following research-supported school-based interventions:

• Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS)
  • A group and individual intervention that uses cognitive-behavioral techniques to reduce symptoms of PTSD, depression, and behavioral problems, as well as improving functioning, grades and attendance, peer and parent support, and coping skills.
• Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
  
  • An evidenced-based three tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting daily student outcomes.
• Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC)
  
  • A flexible, components-based intervention developed for children and adolescents who have experienced complex trauma, along with their caregiving systems. ARC is based off four key areas of study: normative childhood development, traumatic stress, attachment, and risk & resilience.
• Supports for Students Exposed to Trauma (SSTE)
  • An adaptation of CBITS, designed to help schools and school systems that do not have access to school-based clinicians. Designed with and for teachers and non-clinical school counselors.
