Here are a few "Good news reports" on some of our clients engaged in the Family Wellness Initiative this year:
2 families are participating in family counseling and parenting classes!
2 families have moved into independent housing and received assistance with beds and furniture for their families!
1 dad and 1 mom have enrolled in college classes!
2 other moms will complete their GED this semester!
2 families have received major clean up help with their homes and yards!
FWI funds assisted two families with vital car repairs.
6 children attended summer camps for free!
Our new Hispanic families are receiving free legal assistance with their documentation!
The Youth Protection Seminar is presented to organizations and individuals who work with youth, including educators, coaches, community leaders, law enforcement, and others. The purpose is to inform, collaborate, and develop leadership champions working with various professional and community speakers. Continuing education is available through the LPCA of Georgia, and Post credit is available for law enforcement. The keynote message will come from a panel of survivors and those they first disclosed to and will be co-moderated by Andrew Schoppe, Founder and President of the Golden Rule Partners, and Jason Baldridge, Director of Experience and Safety for the Atlanta Area Council, BSA. Twelve breakout sessions cover a range of topics that range from the process of disclosure, youth-on-youth/peer-on-peer abuse, the cost of abuse, the societal impact of prevention, and more.
Together Georgia, Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Georgia Professional Human Services Association (GPHSA ) are sponsoring a free conference called Better Together on August 19, 2024, from 11:30 am- 4:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, Ga. During this conference, participants can participate in a roundtable community conversation and network with community leaders, legislators, and other professionals in the Gwinnett area. Wellroot is offering no-cost virtual training monthly from August through November. Reaching Teens is a curriculum designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. It supportsyouth-serving professionals to be the kind of adults that young people deserve. It is a strength-based integrative model that draws from best practices centered on positive youth development, resilience-building strategies, trauma-sensitive practices, and restorative practices. At its core, Reaching Teens draws on the primacy and power of human relationships to build strong, successful youth and heal those who have endured hardships.

Saturday 4/27 we hosted our first 2024 Family Wellness Workshop with 33 family members in attendance. We were super excited because this time around, we had some new families who are brand new to our country and we were able to use grant funds to translate our materials into Spanish! We had 3 Spanish speaking leaders and excellent participation from all who attended! Our families loved their door prizes and have been engaging so well in this year's initiative! Thanks SOH!

Storytelling is the most powerful tool we have as changemakers. This service is providing an adult shared community they noticed a lot of seniors, disabled and others were being displaced from their homes. They have several locations across the country one of which is here in Georgia. This program also does supportive services such as providing transportation to doctors’ appointments, grocery store runs, and other appointments. The location for this service is here in Augusta, GA and services in other counties such as Cobb, DeKalb and Douglas county . This is due to homeless shelters and DV housing shutting down across the State of Georgia. Some of the other locations even provides childcare for the recipients in the program. Helping Mamas is a program located in Norcross, GA that assist families in need of baby care items and period care products. The program is also mobile and not limited to the Gwinnett County area but for all Georgia Families. This program has reached one hundred and twenty-thousand children thus far.This program works directly with shelters, school districts and shelters. During National Recovery Month, the "Mobilize Recovery Across Georgia Bus Tour" traveled to 48 diverse communities across the state. This tour was initiated as a direct response to the 800,000 resilient Georgians in long-term recovery from substance use disorders.
